Chuck Tarlton - Umpire, inducted in 1996

Currently retired and living in Williford, Arkansas, Chuck served as the Rockford Area Umpire-in-Chief from 1975 and became the Assistant State Umpire-in-Chief in 1980 a position he held until 1987.  In this capacity he coordinated numerous clinics and umpire crews and sent umpires throughout the state for state and national tournaments.  He was the mainstay in the Rockford area and thru his leadership has an excellent crew of umps to send anywhere in the country, knowing they would do a great job.  His motto "Have umpire, will travel."

Charlie served as Umpire-in-Chief at numerous State, Divisional, Regional and World Tournaments.  He also became a Tournament Director if that was needed.

"In the mid to late 1970's while umpiring a Women's Class "A" NIT in St. Charles, it was raining and the diamond had become quite muddy," Charlie explains.  "The catcher from the Chicagoans kept trying to get my attention and I finally called a timeout.  She advised me I was standing on her shin guards.  Much to her surprise, she merely stuck in the mud.  After a brief discussion, I had to help her free her legs from mud and after a good laugh we proceeded with the game."
