Tom Spahn - Player, inducted in 1996

The first player signed by the Chicago Storm for the new American Professional Slo-Pitch League.  Spahny went on to stardom in the pro league, being named an All-Star outfielder for three consecutive years, and receiving the most votes by managers and sportswriters in his third year.

During a Pro game in Detroit in 1980, a radio announcer called Tom Spahn "the best all-around player in the American Professional League."

Spahny began his USSSA career in 1970 lettering in baseball at NIU for three years.

Having won All-Tournament awards and Most Valuable Players awards in the 1970's, Tom was selected to the All-State team at the 40 & Over Masters State tournament in 1993.

With a .637 lifetime batting average and over 600 career homeruns, the left center fielder was a line drive hitter.  His teams included, professional teams, Chicago Storm and Fort Wayne Scouts.  Spahny also played with Feldott's Plateau, Wilfreds, The Lantern, Chicago Nationwide Advertising, Hilltoppers, Lilly Air Systems, Bank of Westmont, Plano Softball Club, Sand's Motel, Oswego Inn and Ace Hardware.

The teams he played for in the 1970's and 80's would be considered Major at the present time.  He played in numerous State, Major NIT's, National/Regional and World tournaments.  Spahny will play in the Masters Program this season.
