Vic DiGiovanni - Umpire, inducted in 1996

Vic began his umpiring career in 1975.  He attended dozens of clinics and worked National, State, Divisional and World Tournaments in Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri and Illinois.

Vic and championship finals went hand-in-hand.  He most enjoyed working the "big" games with the Class "A" Men and Women and the Men's Major teams.  It was a given that Vic would be behind the plate in the championship game.

His style of umpiring was loud, clear calls and always hustling.  He also got real low behind the plate to catch corners, etc.  However, in a Men's Class "A" State Tournament a 250 pounder had an uncanny backswing and caught Vic in the face, breaking his jaw in three places.  Fortunately for Vic, his USSSA Umpire insurance picked up what his primary didn't cover and he made $400 on the deal!

Vic was the very first USSSA Umpire from Illinois to work the Men's Major World Series in Indianapolis, IN in 1984.  He was behind the plate in games that included Bruce Meade, Rick Scherr and other softball legends.

He retired from umpiring in 1988 and is sorely missed.
