Team Classifications

The below will be in effect for the 2010 Fall/2011 season. However, teams may be scrutinized this year to make sure they are playing in the proper classification.

The main objective for team classification is allowing teams to play within their skill level. In all fairness to its members, Illinois USSSA will follow the below guidelines to insure that teams are placed into the class where they can compete.

Girls Fast Pitch Class “A” – Any team considered a competitive travel team within Illinois. This team has the potential to do well in a World Series/National Tournament. Also, any team that participates in another association as Class “A” must play this classification in USSSA.

Girls Fast Pitch Class “B” – These teams may lack the experience and number of skilled players and pitchers to compete on a National or State level with the more experienced Class “A” teams. This classification may be for the first year team in their age group. Effective in 2011 – Teams are restricted to not more than 3 Class “A” players from the previous 2 years. Teams may be moved up from 2010 season results.

Girls Fast Pitch Class “C”/All Star In House – This program is limited to any In House League player/team or All Star League team/players that do not normally play tournaments during the current season. There will be Class “C” State Tournaments and Class “C” World Series available for these teams. No travel or club ball players or teams allowed. This is a restricted program and any team that does not meet the requirements will not be allowed to participate.

Odd Age Groups – If a team played “A” the previous year and is now playing in the 11U, 13U or 15U program they must play in the “A” classification if playing up into 12U, 14U or 16U, respectively. Teams may appeal if they have lost players and did not pickup any “A” players.

Appeal – Teams may appeal their team classification with Assistant State Director, Frank Walz at anytime during the season. This must be a written document with the reasons this team should not be classified at the higher classification. An Appeal Form will be available on this site.

A team can be reclassified at any time during the season.

Note: A team can be suspended from all USSSA if the team knowingly participated in a lower classification than what their team is classified.
